Players we may have missed

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Hey guys, Matt here with another player series. While we have completed most of our team and player reviews there will always be some that have slipped under the radar. While we are all accumulating very similar squads as we close in on deadline day, these points of difference make grab you those few extra points when most needed. My job in this series is to hunt them down and find you guys some bargains! I will do this series in a few parts so here goes:

Clark
(4.5) Aston Villa def – Here’s one possible gem that may have been missed somewhere along the line. He is a young, talented defender who can play as either a defensive mid, CB or LB. This versatility is a great trait, and he has also shown he is capable of scoring a goal or two when needed as he showed against Arsenal, bagging two that game. He is gradually getting more playing time as he improves and at the age of 23 he should be ready for a breakout season! With Lambert now at the helm he may just get his chance and at 4.5 with Villa’s easy first run of fixtures, he may well be worth the punt, if only as bench back-up.

N’Zogbia (6.5) Aston Villa mid – He was one of the most talked up prospects last year as a bargain mid but he failed to deliver at his new home. Perhaps it was just the new surroundings, new teammates and most probably villa’s defensive game style that cost him his fantasy scoring capabilities we saw him produce at Wigan. However with Lambert now controlling things with his attacking mentality, all might change for him this year. We know he can produce great attacking returns and with Villa’s kind first up run, similar to Clark he may well be worth having a crack. A great POD at the moment and as Martin Tyler so famously says “If you don’t buy a ticket, you won’t win the raffle”. I am with Martin on this one for now, Zoggers may be a great pick up.

Petric (6.0)Fulham fwd – Got bargain written all over this one. Petric showed us all his capabilities with his recent hat-trick during pre-season, and while selected by only 1.1% of managers he may well see a pickup in investment. With Fulham selling Zamora to QPR they were left well short on strikers. Ruiz filled the gap nicely but he is no out and out striker. While Petric may only have a couple of good seasons left in his body he will be more than capable of providing great fantasy returns for a price tag of 6.0 if he can maintain the number one striker role. Rodallega (6.5) is another to watch after signing with Fulham but pre-season form suggests Petric may well get the nod. If this is the case watch out, he could set the EPL (or maybe just the FPL) alight. Keep an eye out.

Taylor (5.0) Newcastle def – Now here’s one that I have had my eye on for a while and talk has just started to emerge labelling him as a definite prospect, and for good reason too. Colocinni is labelled the safe option in Newcastle’s defence priced the same, but with nowhere near as much attacking threat as Taylor possesses. The man is a beast from corners and will be sure to put a few away IF he can play a full season. His capability to score or assist from CB is unquestioned, but his ability to stay fit is another. Managing just over a 1000 minutes in the past two seasons and yet to play a full year it’s obvious why he has his doubters. While he poses a risk, as many others in these articles do they could be just the player you need to win your league, or to get you over the line in a tight one. A Taylor goal from a corner against the ‘safe’ option in Colocinni could give you bragging rights for the next year. It is these decisions that can make or break your season, if he can stay fit he is a sure lock to be one of the highest scoring defenders this season. Can he do it? We will have to wait and see, but definitely consider.

So that wraps up today’s candidates, and it definitely leaves us with some more considering to do, me included! I truly believe you need one of these guys (possibly to come) as a POD if you want to be one step ahead of the game. I hope I may have cleared a few of the gaps you had while introducing some new prospects. Expect a follow up article soon inspecting some more fantasy gems, until then leave your comments below or tweet me @MattCraigDT and I’ll get back to you. Give us a follow @FPLaddicts and until next time, cheers.

Petric looks good. Has been on fire, he is going to be my cheap option now that “Yellowvic” and Cisse have jumped in price.

Front 3 at the moment included Torres and Aguero… Picking Torres is a massive risk.
