Just one day to go, so close! I will bring you the weekly news every friday prior to the upcoming gameweek, starting from today! So much to review, let’s get into it: Note: A few additions have been made based on today’s news…
Obviously where all the actions been at recently, with the transfer season coming to a close. Rumours that have been circling now seem to be materialising and a lot will have a major impact on our fantasy teams. It seems that Modric has finally got his dream move for up to 27m pounds. Less than what was expected but thank god its over. Now that he is gone Spurs can finally make some purchases of their own, maybe a striker. This will need to be monitored but nothing new should eventuate before GW1. Modric was never really fantasy relevant anyway. As mentioned previously Cazorla has made his way to Arsenal and looked very good. He should gel well into Arsenal’s passing game, could be worth a risk at 9.0.
Sinclair looks like heading to Manchester City, which could free up Michu as a promising option into Swansea’s mids. Even if it is not City he seems to have refused a new contract and wants out. City has also bought Rodwell into their mix, which seem 2 interesting buys. Neither will be fantasy relevant at city but are promising young English talent, which typically have not flourished at City. Perhaps things will change, although with their list as it is this will not be likely in the next season or two.
Ok fine, onto the big one. Van persie has got his wish and has signed with United. News had circled that after Arsenal’s recent signings Van Persie was willing to stay, but was forced out of the club after his earlier comments. The implications of this transfer are huge. Just check Adz’s article on The RVP dilemma (http://fpladdicts.com/2012/08/16/the-rvp-dilemma) for more detail but to sum it up, Rooney is no longer a lock, Kagawa is more uncertain and Arsenal’s Giroud and Podolski look more relevant, as does Cazorla. At 13.0 Vanners is not making my shortlist but we will see, I’m tipping him to get injured 😛
There are a few minor injury concerns leading into GW1, although I’m not too concerned for the most part. Richards is out for the first month which should free up City’s RB slot for Zabaleta, at least until late September. Van Der Vaart has returned to action and looks set to feature in GW1. Silva is a slight doubt after playing plenty of European football over the Summer but not to worry, I expect him to at least play 60 minutes. Newcastle have a few concerns of their own with Ba, Cisse and Ben Arfa in doubt for their home clash with Spurs. Cabaye is another in doubt for GW1 but with a home clash against Spurs Newcastle options can possibly wait another week anyway. Ben Arfa is set to miss at least GW1, while Ba is a minor concern. Cisse was said to have trained fine yesterday and looks in good knick, expect him to play! None of these are major concerns and all should be fit and firing come September.
Jones is having continual problems with his back and is set to miss GW1 and possibly more, probably avoid to start with, I don’t expect them to take a risk on a 20 year old future star. With both Evans and Smalling set to miss the start of the season Ferguson is short at the back and may have some issues coming into the season, some potential bargains may present themselves over the course of the first month.
UPDATES: Just a few extra notes, Richards could now be out for up to 10 weeks, if so hello Zabaleta! Bosingwa looks on his way to QPR, if he is 4.5 will contest Fabio for a spot in my team! Saha to Sunderland looks likely and could be a potential bargain! Koscielny and Oxlade-Chamberlain ruled out for Arsenal, Cazorla and Walcott to be assessed…
Nothing else major to report, if any other issues pop up just ask me in the comments below and I will get to the bottom of them before lockout!
Well that’s the big news going around. Get excited for the first squads to be released tomorrow and finalising your teams for Saturday! I’m keen, only hours to go now 🙂
