My team is as below:
PSG have a bloody soft group, so Sirigu is a no brainer for me at 4.5. Malafeev is Zenit’s keeper, in a mediocre group, but his price tag makes him pretty tempting at 4.0.
Others you might consider are Porto’s Helton or AC Milan’s Abbiati at 5.0 in a relatively soft group.
Starting with a 3 man defence as most people will, Gibbs offers value at 4.5, while Howedes will start every game for the surprisingly stoic Schalke. Vidal for Juventus is the tastiest proposition, as a 5.5 defender who takes penalties and plays in the midfield… Lustig is there purely for value, as the Swedish international will start every game for Celtic. Lahm rounds out the team as a higher priced option, but given Bayern’s group he should score well as he always does.
Boateng is another defender you could be looking at, given his price of 5.5, but I’ll be staying away from the group of death’s defenders (RM, MCI, BVB, AJX) as it will be too unpredictable who concedes.
Basically, pick the out and out guns. Chelsea will need Hazard, while Valencia offers Man United a spark down the right flank. Oh and by the way, look at Man United’s draw. Unbelievably soft. Cazorla has played in Spain with Malaga, so should be used to the European competition, if not the Spanish teams. Xavi is just a gun. Enough said. Shirokov at Zenit is a bit of a smokey, but given his 5.5 price tag he was hard to ignore for me.
Other options could revolve around Man United’s midfield, through Kagawa. Boateng at 7.5 is Milan’s chief playmaker, while Willian from Shakhtar Donetsk is highly rated and highly sought after by many top clubs. Could be a P.O.D.
RVP was hard to look past given United’s draw, while Huntelaar is there purely because I have a man crush on him. Baros offer PL and top flight experience at a low cost for Galatasaray.
Others to consider are obviously any Barcelona or Real forward, while Pazzini will be heavily relied upon for Milan. At 8.5, he’s fairly priced. Soldado has been capped for Spain, and could bag a bucket of goals if Valencia take off. Rodriguez from Porto will slot into Hulk’s position, while the Green Man himself will be Zenit’s front-man.
Anyway, hope that helps! A few cracking games tonight, I know I’ll be getting up to watch Man City v Real Madrid. Should be a belter!
