Captains – Round 6

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Another tough captaincy week it seems, there are a few options that really stand out but most others are doubts because of rotation, form or fixtures. Let’s take a look.

Arsenal take on league leaders Chelsea at the Emirates, there are usually a few goals in these encounters but I see this one as a cagey type of affair. I don’t really like any Chelsea players as captain this week, Cazorla would be my pick if you were looking for a gunner but I’m not keen on this game at all. Everton taking on Southampton screams captaincy options! Everton are on fire and Southampton are shipping goals. Fellaini is near unplayable at the moment and seems a great choice, Pienaar is in everything and Baines has been great, especially if he gets clean sheet as well. Any of these 3 could come of well for you.

Fulham take on City, tough game this one. City are not playing well, and Fulham are pretty tight at home. I don’t reckon a city player is viable here, Berbatov could be a good shout; I reckon Fulham can score once or twice and he should be behind it in some way. Norwich takes on Liverpool in another tricky fixture. Norwich are not flying, but are playing well enough not to be smashed off the park, Liverpool are actually playing well but can’t score! One of these weeks they will just blow a team away, will it be this week? I’m not sure but I’m willing to take a big gamble on this being the week and Suarez scoring double figures. It is a risk though.

Newcastle travel to Reading in a bit of a meh fixture, it will probably be a 2-1 to either team, If you want to try your luck Ba or Ben Arfa could be your men but there are far better options out there it seems. Stoke take on Swansea in another no captaincy game, Stoke will hold firm and try to score once, and I reckon they will be successful. Therefore no Swansea players look good here; Maybe a Crouch  punt may work for you? Sunderland host Wigan in another dicey captains game, Sunderland have been shot shy for a while now but Fletcher just keeps scoring off what little scraps he finds, he is the only viable option here but will he get enough chances to score?

Man U take on Tottenham in an interesting game, Man U will be stinging from the Fergie abuse after last weekend; I expect them to come out firing. Tottenham have been leaking a few goals, I’d reckon a few more may come here chiefly off the boot of RVP. He was a peripheral figure at Anfield but still scored, once again you could back in your 13 million dollar man here and relax. Villa take on West Brom fresh off a 4 goal performance against city midweek. West Brom are tight so it will be tough for them, I don’t really see any captains options here. Finally QPR take on West Ham, It should be a dour affair thanks to Big Sam, Can’t see a lot of captaincy potential here to be honest.

So there we have it, a few options sprinkled around, who makes the top 5?

1-         Baines

2-         Fellaini

3-         RVP

4-         Berbatov

5-         Suarez

Everton are flying in defence and attack, Baines is too good an opportunity to pass against a side who are shipping goals. He’s on Pens, Free kicks, is always bombing down the left side whipping in crosses and has clean sheet bonus too. So many ways for him to score for you. Get on.  Fellaini is nearly unplayable right now, he is tall, strong, rangy and always in the box when there is a ball needing to be put in the net… much like Cahill used to be, you can pick him with relative confidence also. RVP is you perennial captaincy fall back, whenever in doubt just pick him, he is playing at home vs a defence that is not water tight. Even if he plays poorly he still has enough quality to sneak a quick goal or assist, seems a good shout this week too.

Berbatov is a risk, but he looks interested and in form, City are shipping goals and Fulham are great at home. All this adds up to the fact that Berbatov could get amongst the points. Finally Suarez is another risk, he is more of a hunch pick, I can just see him cutting lose one week, and this is as good a week as any to take that punt. Norwich are hardly world beaters. Suarez is an all action type, if he’s not shooting on goal he is creating them, hitting free kicks or diving around in the box. Anything could happen!

So that’s about it for the round 6 captains, any I’ve missed? Who will you pick?

Good luck!

Got none of your top five. Might get Suarez for Torres or Tevez though.

Agree that Fellaini looks unplayable at the moment. By Christ he monstered Swansea last week. Reminiscent of Drogba everytime he played Arsenal!

To be fair the local uner-12 school side would’ve defended better than Swansea last week. They’re absolutely horrible at the moment.

I reckon Ben Arfa against Reading is a great C option. He’s in great touch, Both of his fwds have picked up goals the last few games and (apologies to any Reading fans) Reading are shit, home or away. Leak goals every game.
