captains – round 9

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Another week goes by, time for another captains poll. There does seem to be one recurring theme with captains this year… RVP is almost fail safe, if ever there any doubt whatsoever about who you want as captain, just pick him. With that being said we will still have a look at the options around the place this week but I’m not going to beat around the bush, there are very few options .

I’ll start off by saying I’m not going to waste our times by even considering anybody from the following games;

Villa v NorwichReading v FulhamWigan v West hamStoke v Sunderland. There… that should narrow things down a bit! All these games will either be dour fests or who cares games, even if there are goals scored it will be like trying to find a needle in a haystack finding the right captain.

So next we hit Chelsea v United. There have been some form players from both sides, but would you pick a captain from this fixture? Hmm after what I said about RVP earlier I probably sound like an idiot but I’ll stay away from this game also, too unpredictable.

So that leaves us with 6 games, next game is the Merseyside Derby. Ordinarily I steer clear of derby’s unless it is the Nth London derby because it always seems to have loads of goals. Gerrard ALWAYS seems to score in this fixture but I doubt he is captain worthy, Suarez seems to lift in this type of fixture but we do have to remember he is playing a form side in Everton. For the blue side Baines could offer something but he will be missing his left flank partner in Pienaar so I’m at a bit of a loss about captains in this tie, if anyone I’d go Suarez.

So that’s all the difficult fixtures out of the way, let’s get into the plum captaincy options!

Arsenal host an improving QPR, improving yes but not enough to keep out a gunners outfit that will be stung from their miserable encounter at Carrow road last week. There could be a number of goals in this one to the home side so we need to get on board.. but who? Cazorla deserves another shot with Podolski being another option.

Newcastle host West Brom in a tricky game, the baggies have been good and will be hard to break down, if Newcastle can do it the lethal Ba needs to be considered with Ben Arfa being another option.

Leaky Southampton takes on spurs at home…you would have to fancy spurs notching a few here, surely Bale will have to score here so he can do the baby cradle celebration.. I’m putting my faith in that alone being enough to have him high in the captaincy calculations. Defoe has been putting himself about of late and could be a sneaky chance also.

Lastly City host Swansea in a game they should be able to score a few goals in. the only trouble is we never know who the hell Mancini will go with. We would love to just lock in Aguero or Tevez but there is the slight risk that Mancini tinkers them out after a euro midweek.

There’s the analysis, who are the top 5?

1. Cazorla

2. Bale

3. Ba

4. Aguero

5. Tevez

Cazorla is a standout option this week, he pulls all the strings for Arsenal and they should be out to run riot against the hapless QPR. He stung a few last week but don’t let that out you off. Bale fresh from a new baby will be itching to do the baby cradle celebration… that and playing obliging Southampton make him a definite option. Ba is a great player at home and is one of few players in the league that can score from very few touches; he is just awesome at latching onto a long ball with one touch and hitting it home. It won’t be easy against West Brom but he is a good option. Lastly we have the city pairing…. Normally they would be much higher considering this fixture but the rotation risk is a worry.

So that’s about all I can come up with, have I missed any? Who will be your round 9 captain?
