Selection Saturdays- GW10

Reading Time: 4 minutes

GW 10 has rolled around, and there is some big selection news this week. Who have I left out? Well one of Chelsea’s stars is a major doubt, and I’m tipping him to miss this week. Who? Well does it really Mata? Of course! Let’s take a journey… (EDIT: West Brom, Chelsea, Southampton.)

Manchester United v Arsenal

Manchester United

De Gea; Rafael, Evans, Ferdinand, Evra; Valencia, Carrick, Cleverley, Young; Rooney, Clattenberg, Van Persie.

De Gea has been getting the nod over Lindegaard of late, and performed well against Chelsea, so I’ll tip him to start. 10 men were rested midweek v Chelsea, apart from Rafael , who is pretty much unchallenged at RB. Everyone should be fresh, with Scholes and Cleverley fighting it out for the last CM slot.

Mannone; Sagna, Mertesacker, Vermaelen, Santos; Wilshere, Arteta, Cazorla; Walcott, Giroud, Podolski.

Gervinho is injured, which means Walcott will start. Wilshere should pip Ramsey for the last midfield slot after looking promising last week. Sagna means Jenkinson is a peripheral figure for FPL managers.

Fulham v Everton

Schwarzer; Riether, Hangeland, Hughes, Riise; Duff, Baird, Diarra, Richardson; Ruiz, Berbatov.

Baird shook off a midweek knock to be fit, as Rodallega looks set to miss out in favour of Ruiz. Alternatively, Richardson could drop to the bench, Ruiz to the left, and Rodallega up front, but Jol seems to prefer the Costa Rican international up front with Berbatov– who incidentally is tipped to play after “breaking a rib midweek”. Work that one out.

Howard; Coleman, Distin, Jagielka, Baines; Mirallas, Neville, Fellaini, Osman, Pienaar; Jelavic.

Pienaar returns, which means Naismith will drop to the bench, provided that Mirallas recovers from his injury doubt. Gibson remains injured so Neville will start again at CM.

Norwich v Stoke City

Ruddy; Martin, Bassong, Turner, Garrido; Bennet, Tettey, Hoolahan, Johnson, Pilkington; Holt.

I promise you, this will be the most boring game you ever watch.

Stoke City

Begovic; Cameron, Shawcross, Huth, Wilkinson; Whelan, Adam, Nzonzi, Kightly; Walters, Crouch.

I really promise. Wilkinson will fill in at LB for Wilson, and a fit again Whelan means Whitehead will drop to the bench.

Sunderland v Aston Villa

Mignolet; Bardsley, Cuellar, O’Shea, Rose; Johnson, Larsson, Cattermole, McClean; Gardner; Fletcher.

Gardner has started over Sessegnon the last week, so I expect that to continue. Elsewhere, Cuellar is a doubt, which puts Bramble on standby.

Aston Villa

Guzan; Lowton, Vlaar, Clark, Bennett; Albrighton, Delph, Herd, Holman; Agbonlahor, Benteke.

El Ahmadi is suspended due to yellow card accumulation, so Villa will be hoping Aussie lad Herd will shake off a midweek knock v Swindon. Benteke has been clinical lately, and likely to keep Bent at bay again.

Swansea v Chelsea

Tremmel; Rangel, Chico, Williams, Davies; De Guzman, Ki, Britton; Routledge, Michu, Hernandez.

Vorm is replaced by Tremmel, but apart from that, much of the same from the Swans. Dyer will be hoping to trump Routledge or Hernandez for a wing berth.

Cech; Azpilicueta, Cahill, Ivanovic, Cole; Mikel, Ramires; Hazard, Moses, Oscar; Torres.

Mata played 120 minutes midweek and is apparently nursing a hamstring injury… he is a SERIOUS doubt for tomorrow so don’t bank on him, Moses will probably get his first PL start here. Cole will be tested before the match, with Bertrand likely to deputise. Torres will replace SturridgeLuiz is a huge chance to miss, handing Ivanovic a CB spot and Azpilicueta a RB berth.

Tottenham v Wigan

Friedel; Walker, Gallas, Caulker, Vertonghen; Sandro, Huddlestone, Lennon, Dempsey, Bale; Defoe.

Dembele is injured still so Huddlestone will start in the double pivot alongside SandroDefoe’s form at the moment is a little bit too good to drop him for Adebayor… but if he has a dry patch the move will be made fairly swiftly.

Al Habsi; Ramis, Caldwell, Figueroa; Boyce, McArthur, McCarthy, Beausejour; Kone, Maloney, Di Santo.

Alcaraz is still out, so Wigan’s side will be almost exactly the same as it always is.

West Ham v Man City

West Ham

Jaaskelainen; O’Brien, Collins, Reid, McCartney; Diame, Noble, Nolan; Jarvis, Carroll, Benayoun.

Much of the same from West Ham. O’Brien covers on the right in Demel’s two game absence. Benayoun will try to ward off Maiga for a start on the right wing.

Man City

Hart; Zabaleta, Kompany, Lescott, Clichy; Toure, Garcia, Milner; Aguero, Tevez, Nasri.

Garcia is a doubt, but I’m tipping him to start above Barry. Milner returns from suspension, Zabaleta from injury and Lescott should keep out NastasicKolarov is a doubt so Clichy should start. Dzeko will be itching to start up front, but his role as super sub seems confirmed. Silva is still out for a couple of weeks more.

QPR v Reading

Cesar; Bosingwa, Nelsen, Ferdinand, Traore; Hoilett, Granero, Diakite, Park; Taarabt; Zamora.

Mbia‘s moment of madness sees Nelsen partner Ferdinand again in the CB pairing, while Diakite will again be preferred to FaurlinWright-Phillips should warm the bench as Hoilett and Taarabt offer more goal threat at home. Zamora is hoping to play despite a hip niggle thanks to injections pre game.

McCarthy; Cummings, Gorkss, Mariappa, Shorey; McAnuff, Tabb, Leigertwood, Kebe; Hunt, Pogrebnyak.

Federici will be pretty gutted he conceded 7 in about 60 minutes last week, as up until half-time he was looking like earning his spot back. Tabb starts as Karacan is injured, while super-sub McCleary will warm the benches again.

Liverpool v Newcastle

Jones; Wisdom, Skrtel, Agger, Johnson; Allen, Sahin, Gerrard; Suso, Suarez, Sterling.

Reina could come back into contention for this one, but Jones has been playing quite nicely between the sticks. Apart from that there shouldn’t be too many issues with Liverpool’s lineup, apart from the doubt surrounding Johnson that could hand Enrique or even Downing a start at LB.

Krul; Simpson, S Taylor, Coloccini, Santon; Guitierrez, Tiote, Cabaye; Ben Arfa, Cisse, Ba.

Cisse has not been in the good books lately, with Ameobi being preferred. Ba is a major doubt, and is rated 50/50 by Pardew to play. EDITCisse has been assured a start from Pardew after his winning “goal” against West Brom. I use the term goal loosely given it was scored with his back.

West Brom v Southampton

West Brom

Foster; Tamas, Olsson, McAuley, Ridgewell; Odemwingie, Yacob, Mulumbu, Morrison, Dorrans; Lukaku.

Yacob is a doubt, as is Long, so Lukaku looks primed for a start here. Ridgewell keeps out Popov as Tamas is the only fit right back at the Hawthorns. Jones is fit, but I doubt they’ll slot him straight back in after an extended stint on the sidelines.

Boruc; Clyne, Fonte, Yoshida, Fox; Davis, Schneiderlin; Ramirez, Rodriguez, Lallana; Lambert.

Lambert is the only one I can see dropping out of this XI, as he has only played in half of the away fixtures. Rodriguez could move into the lone striker position and Puncheon could replace him in the midfield if this is the case. Ramirez returns from his dead leg…after 3 weeks. Soft.

So that just about does it… Good luck one and all!

Just a couple of notes xo:

Cisse has been assured of a start by Pardew, whatever that means for Ba or Ameobi

Walcott played the full 120 and pulled up sore, wenger didn’t sound keen to play him at all… Ramsey on the wing me thinks :/

Mata still keen to plat but I probably agree with him missing this week

    OMG Rooney!!
Could have had at least 8 points (including yellow card) if it werent for your reskless shot!!
If he had scored that as well, he could have possibly had 3 BP!! Which would have made it 11!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

    • mad romeys

And isnt it suspicious that teams seem to get more Red Cards against Man U then other side?? Anyway, who cares we are on to of the table and will be for a couple of hours!!

Non trade of the year is Felliani. Was going transfer his arse few weeks ago when he got injured but was talked into keeping him! Now reaping the rewards.

If it wasnt for Felliani (12) & Carzola (7) my current score of 36 would be looking atrocious! Lucky Carz scored late, although it cost me clean sheet for DeGea.

i have 5 trades in my mind. this is the order im planning to do them
    1. cazorla to Gera
    2. lambert to ba
    3. rooney to rvp
    4. baines to a defender under 5.5 (huth is on my mind)
    5. fletcher to tevez

Should i change the order of trades and also when should i do them. should i take -point hits coz i was thinking of doing trade 1 and 2 this week and get a -4 hit.
i also have to get rid of baines in order to do fletcher to tevez trade. should i do this trade or keep baines and fletcher?

rooney to RVP is good. lambert to ba also. Gera is not an FPL option. baines is a gem… will score big. fletcher is ok… but sunderland just don’t score.

gera played in the hole because Yacob’s absence (which wont be longer than another week) forced Morrison deeper and gave Gera a chance in the hole. Should Yacob be fit tomorrow or next week, Morrison will go straight back to the hole.

Don’t write Gera off simply based on past form. He’s got two goals and an assist this year, which is already his best yearly return in his EPL history (and he’s only played 6 games so far this year!). I brought him in last week as my 5th midfielder – very solid bench cover but could also turn out to be ok as your 4th mid.

I reckon the rest of your trades also sound good, although I’m not convinced that Fletcher to Tevez represents great value. Do you already have Berbatov? Otherwise I would be patient with Fletcher – his fixture isn’t too bad.

If I were you I would be doing the Rooney to RVP one first – gives you the best captain option in the league. See how Gera performs tomorrow, because if he has a blinder then you might have to do that one this week before his price increases.

Little good luck story for a Monday. Last week, to raise funds for an upgrade to RVP, I downgraded Ivanovic to the cheapest playing defender I could find – Gorkss at 3.9. I chose to play him on the field this week over my other cheapie defenders due to him playing QPR. A goal and 3 bonus points later he has turned out to be my highest scorer for the week with 11 points!
