The Watchlist

New article here for you guys, I will look at players from each line and come up with the best few players in each position based not only on form, but fixtures and other variables. Unlike transfer talk I will consider more than just the previous gameweeks performance. Let’s get into it!

The mid-price options certainly take the cake here. Due to decent fixtures and incredible form Begovic has to be the best keeper option going around at the moment. Close behind him is Guzan, with strong fixtures and form on his side he is another great option to watch, while being priced at a cheap 4.6. Reina is a good short term option in the lead up to the new year with fixtures too good to be true, however at 5.8 he may set people back too much. Value places behind the former two. Finally Jaaskelainen takes a tumble as West Ham have a blank in GW 19 on top of a tough run of fixtures.

With a brilliant set of fixtures and a great run of form Johnson has to take the top spot in the defenders. Clean sheets look likely and attacking returns in his last 3 outings spell out points to me. Another attacking defender that slots in behind Johnson on similar grounds is Vertonghen. A keen eye for goal coupled with Tottenham’s juicy fixtures has him looking like great value at just 6.3. Once again clean sheets and attacking returns are very much a possibility over Christmas. Cieran Clark may be a surprising option at 3 but his form justifies this selection. He had scored at least 5 points in his last 4 games previous to their trip to Liverpool, where they were unlucky to concede late on. Villa have solid fixtures, but most importantly are in great form. Clean sheets look a distinct possibility and with his aerial threat Clark looks stunning value at just 4.4. Nastasic slots in behind him as he looks to cement his place in City’s line-up. His job security is sound but no more than that, especially during this busy period of fixtures. However clean sheets look likely once more for City and he provides great value. Shawcross stays strong over the next few weeks but fixtures are starting to stiffen up for the Potters captain. Beware with trading him in, his value is starting to decrease at 5.8. Finally Bassong takes a fall as well in my reckoning. Fixtures are going to hurt Norwich’s chance of clean sheets and his goal scoring exploits are unlikely to continue. As his value increases above 5.0 I don’t like his chances.

Cazorla tops the list here after his stunning 23 point effort last week against Reading. A blank in GW 19 will hurt however this week he looks good odds to continue his great form. There is also a lack of other midfield options screaming pick me at the moment, especially with Fellaini suspended. Silva takes the second spot with a  home game against reading providing him with the chance for a big haul. I wouldn’t put it past him either, solid option with decent fixtures ahead. Michu slides in nicely with a home game against United coming up. If he can score here then he really may be invincible, and the number one spot would beckon. I think he’s a good chance to do just that. Mata has to be here, his consistency is unmatched by any other player this year. A home game against Villa and good fixtures look inviting, get on board if your not already. Bale is always going to be around the place but his injury concerns has me worried. They rate him a good chance this week but hamstrings are always a concern, he may not be back to his best straight up hence he sits a little lower than he usually would. Finally Dempsey sneaks in with a great run of fixtures ahead. His form is decent, consistent more than anything and he will look to continue that run over the Christmas period.

Guess who, Van Persie locks himself in at number one with great fixtures, form and pure ability making him a shoe in. Rooney is not far behind, his form has been just as excellent and United’s attack doesn’t look like slowing up. Great options. Suarez is the closest to the pair, while his form has not been great lately fixtures and ability has him just behind Rooney. If he can re-find his consistency then he is a brilliant option leading the Liverpool attack. Ba slides in just ahead of Tevez for one reason, job security. During these busy times it is more important than ever that we select a starting XI that will be the first on each managers team sheet. Or at least as close to that as possible. Ba is in great goal scoring form and all I can say is watch out QPR. Tevez could destroy it this week, but his unknown job security has me worried. You never know what you will get here, hopefully some goals! Defoe takes a slide with Tottenham’s goal scoring drying up of late and a game against Stoke will never help that problem. Be wary, especially with Adebayor’s presence, his age and Bale returning. He will surely be rested at some point during the next 2 weeks. Finally I have fitted in Benteke. His fixtures are awesome, his form is brilliant and he is capable of scoring at any time.  Valued at just 6.6 he is a massive bargain and one which I’m sure many will capitalise on, however be wary… He can be very inconsistent.

That’s it for today, hope you enjoyed it! Cheers.
