With a quick turnaround the injury report is a bit thin this time around. Either that or the squads are somehow nearing full fitness in times of heavy fixtures.
Feel free to write in the comments: Anyone you think I have missed, why you consider them a fantasy asset or even if you think I have got it wrong, get the debate going.
Mertesacker, Per: Like many players at this time of year illness has struck. Is rated at 75% for the next game be careful though with the quick turnaround in games make sure you have a backup in place.
Vlaar, Ron: Has been missing with a calf injury for 7 games, something must be seriously wrong with his leg, it could be a long term injury. At any rate Villa are in terrible form even Guzan’s shine is starting to lose its appeal.
Cech, Petr: My sources tell me he has a thigh injury and it very doubtful for the next game. With the short term around I doubt he will appear having pulled his quad (a 1 to 3 week injury especially for goalkeepers who have to kick the ball a lot for a ‘cold’ start).
Terry, John: He’s missed 8 games but Chelsea are continuing to fight on without him keeping a few clean sheets along the way. As the weeks go by the likelihood of an instant return is decreasing.
Enquire, Jose: The constant hamstring niggle (as a result of his early season knee problems) has reappeared. Again look towards Glen Johnson who is injury free and a little bit more of a threat going forward.
Balotelli is currently ill and appears out of favour. Deserves a mention because it reduces the chance of rotation between the other 3 strikers who should be on the radar (aguero & dzeko at least).
Richards & Maicon are both currently suffering from knee injuries with unknown return dates. This boosts the appeal of Zabaleta who has played 8 of the last 9. Priced at 5.9 he is worth a look although I still recommend Nasatasic.
Rafael: Is fit again but has dropped 0.5 in value (quite a hit for owners). I feel as though he is due significant rotation with Smalling & Jones so beware owners. Should start the next game though.
Rooney, Wayne: Knee injury, some ligament damage I expect him to be out for 2-3 weeks with that one. Then his now notorious lack of fitness after a few weeks off will kick in. This injury makes Robin Van Persie a certified must have.
NEWCASTLE: (in trouble)
The Taylors: Out long term, not many people would have them anyway. The important note is if Newcastle manages to stay up (outrage expected) these two will be at a friendly 4.5 next season. Injury prone but both excellent when fit.
Cabaye, Yohan: Hes got a nasty one, groin injuries are not often easy to shake off, he is gone long term.
Ben Arfa, Hatem: No festive fixtures for the young winger. Not that many people would be holding onto him as Newcastle’s hopes continue to drop.
Gutierrez, Jonas: Not a great fantasy asset but this guy is devastating on the left hand side for Newcastle. Another one of their key players really struggling with injury. Not good signs down at St. James Park simply too many first team players missing for them to be effective.
Ruddy, John: Out with a long term injury, don’t look at Bunn as a cheap keeper at 4.0 his simply doesn’t have premier league ability. Bunn cost his team heavily against West Brom with very average positioning for both goals.
Whittaker, Steven: Has been very good at right back for a minimal 4.3 but has picked up a strain. Is rated as injured for the next game. I would expect Russell Martin to continue at right back (captain, 4.1 & scored two goals on the weekend!).
Lallana, Adam: A return date is unknown, another 2-4 weeks could be expected at a minimum. The bad news is it dints the potential of Puncheon as there is no strong replacement for the captain to lead the attack.
O’Shea, John: Suffered a reoccurrence of his hamstring injury that had him in doubt for the game. Is not expect to make a quick recovery and could face a few weeks on the sidelines.
MICHU: Is rated at 50-50 for GW21, the swelling is going to be an issue it may or may not have calmed down by now. Having had such a quick turnaround in gameweeks, it is hard to get news out of Swansea. I would start him on the field and have a back up ready to sub on.
Bale, Gareth: Has picked up 5 yellow cards, for diving…I have seen 2 or 3 of the cards and they have been very harsh. That said the rules are the rules and he sits out this gameweek sadly.
Assou-Ekotto: lacking match fitness but is a possibility to appear (75%). This should reveal AVB’s back 3 or back 4 plans to a degree.
WBA have Olsson (centre back) with only a 25% chance to play. The two holding midfielders (Mulumbu & Yacob) are both extremely doubtful (25% and 5%).
McCartney (3.9) has an MCL Knee injury. Typically this kind of injury is anywhere from 2-6 weeks. FPL have finally update his rating to such, if you had been reading this article over the last few weeks you would of already moved him on.
Nolan, Kevin: Has picked up his 5th yellow card and will miss the next game. Is not in any kind of fantasy form either.
Plenty of niggles expected at this time of year that are not listed (especially people pulling out with illness), expect last minute changes and rotation so ensure you have a strong squad to fill in any blanks.
