The Captains – GW6

Reading Time: 3 minutes

It’s finally here! Better late than never I say. Let’s waste no time here, time to briefly check out the best captaincy options this week!

The Contenders:

Giroud – He proved that he was not invincible last week and Swansea will provide the Gunners with a massive test. Could be worth a punt but the breakthrough may come from Arsenal’s more creative sources, still always a shout for a goal.

Michu – He bagged 2 goals in the corresponding fixture last season and with the form he’s in currently, you wouldn’t put it past him to do it again. Arsenal’s defence has looked far from solid and he could be a great smokie.

Negredo – If you have him as a POD then pat yourself on the back. Aguero is set to miss this weekends clash which means Negredo will certainly lead the line against a dodgy Villa defence. I like him for a goal.

Van Persie – My gut is telling me he won’t play this weekend. He wouldn’t miss a Manchester derby and then a cup clash against Liverpool for something minor before returning against West Brom… Surely. I think he’ll be rested for the midweek Champions League clash and even if he gets up, a sub appearance is likely in some form. Too risky for me.

Lambert – Southampton will be keen to bang in the goals against Crystal Palace and surely this will be the game that Lambert breaks his drought. If you have him he is a great punt this week.

Lukaku – I know some people will consider captaining him, however I’m here to tell you, don’t! I’m not totally convinced he’ll start, yet alone do enough to justify captaincy. He needs to prove himself first.

Top 3:

1. Rooney – This week is quite a strange one for captaincy. The big 3 man forward line had made things so easy previously, now we’re suddenly being rushed into selecting someone else! For this reason I’m going safe this week and so should you guys, if you have Rooney then I think he’s the most logical captains choice. In great form, United will be out for blood after last weekend and RVP might not even play. If Rooney can get penalty duties back as well then he’ll be absolute gold. I’m backing him in.

2. Ozil – If you don’t own Rooney then I don’t think you should look any further for a safe captain. He is so creative that even against the toughest of defences he continues to find holes in the armour. Should be a reliable source of points and assists this year and could be due a goal, I like him as a captain.

3. Sturridge – If you’re looking to go a little riskier then Daniel could be your man. We’ll see his direct opposition for goals in a second, however you have to stick with the man in-form surely. Sunderland are a rabble at the moment and Liverpool should be able to unlock their defence with the help of Suarez’s return. Could go big.

The Punt:

Suarez – According to Rodgers Suarez is hungrier than ever. Let’s hope that’s not the case and it was just a slip of the tongue, however he will be raring to light up the premier league once again this season. Sunderland will provide him the perfect platform to get off to a flier, however he is still unproven this year. Big leap of faith to captain, but a punt with massive upside. Put it this way, if I had him he would be my captain this week.

So that’s it from us this week, good luck to one and all for the upcoming 10 games! Cheers.

  1. Go You Gunners

Thanks Matt! I’m going Ozil “According to Rodgers Suarez is hungrier than ever. Let’s hope that’s not the case and it was just a slip of the tongue” I lol’d 😀

  2. Dev

Rooney for capt. Wish he got tighter headgear though coz it looks like it’s falling off every game. hahaha

My vice is probably gonna be Moses even though I have Ozil coz if the gw is crazy enough to have Moyes not play Rooney then it’s crazy enough to have Moses score a hat-trick.

I’m going Giroud. Arsenal might make this 11 away wins in a row, which would see them equaling the Premier League record. Plus with his form at 7.3 and Arsenal having scored 11 goals this season, one behind leaders City, it’s just enough for him to get my vote.
