The Captains – GW8

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Welcome back to another edition of the captains, after a well earned rest it’s time to get back into the hard stuff! Some tempting fixtures will come with differing opinions, there’s captain options every way you turn! Let’s get into it…

The Contenders:

Ramsey – Look, I’m happy to own him at such a cheap price, and with the form he is carrying it’s hard to deny him a goal at home to Norwich. However the Canaries will be no pushovers, and he is a central midfielder after all. Captaincy is a step too far for me, way too risky. Just enjoy the ride!

Sturridge – The influence of Suarez is the only reason he misses out on the top 3, however if you are running without the Uruguayan then seriously consider Sturridge this week. Newcastle have conceded 8 goals in their past 4 games and while they look good going forwards, defending is a whole different matter. You can’t deny him with his current form.

Remy – Form gets him in here, and with Liverpool’s defence clearly struggling, Remy will be looking to continue on from his 5 goals in 3 games hot streak. However, similar to Ramsey, these captaincy picks are too risky for me, so just enjoy the ride while it lasts!

Oscar – If you’re really after a Chelsea captain, then he is probably the best bet. However I would steer clear with their up and down form, especially when you don’t even know who will start! Lampard is a good shout for a goal this week.

Rooney/RVP – I like to captain players from in-form teams, so I will steer clear of this game also. Southampton have been ultra tight at the back and I can’t see United getting more than 2, having said that if RVP is on his last chance for your team then it might as well be as your captain.

Aguero – I think Man City will struggle at West Ham, so I’d be steering clear of their options altogether. Having said that Aguero has scored the most goals away from home this season and will be your best bet from the citizens.

Top 3:

1. Michu – This was such a tight call, I have had Suarez captain all week. However with no European or international action for Michu during the week, he has finally earned himself a well deserved break. He will be coming into this game fresh and Sunderland are all over the shop. I just get the feeling he will smash it this week!

2. Suarez – If you don’t have Michu, or fair enough you don’t trust my judgement, I am almost as confident with Suarez! Newcastle will surely concede and he has the tricks to unlock any defence. He has looked hungry since returning from his ban and will look to continue that goal scoring form this week.

3. Giroud – I always struggle to hold the faith in captaining an Arsenal player, however surely they will get the better of Norwich’s defence, and if anyone was to do so it would have to be the main man upfront. He is getting first-class service this season and looks a great pick.

The Punt:

Lukaku – No matter what anyone says, he is still a risky pick. Young players like himself fire in short bursts, just as he did last year. He does not have the maturity or the age to hold this form all season, so don’t go relying on him like one of the premo strikers. However Hull at home looks to good to be true and surely he will have the power and the strength to unlock their defence. Be happy to have him in your team, but like Remy and Ramsey, sometimes too much of a good thing can be bad!

So that’s it from me this week! look forward to the preview and news wrap in the coming 2 hours! Cheers.

Matt, what would you do if you had Giroud, Suarez, Michu and Lukaku in your team? I kinda do. So umm…. its a tough one this week. Michu burned me last week. And Lukaku at home against Hull looks too good to be true. Lets see….

Having both Sturrdige and Suarez I am keeping the armband on the Englishman because he’s didn’t fly 10 hours yesterday and should be fresher. He didn’t steal a penalty on international duty either…

    Great writeup.

Im going with the Punt this weekend.

I have a feeling his statement ” I’ll score more goals at Everton than Chelsea strikers will” will come true. His got amazing talent and potential, and I think with Hull city missing Brady, they will feature very little in the match

Good stuff Matt, going with Michu myself with Giroud VC glad you have a similar opinion. Lets job Gus Poyet doesn’t get Sunderland rebounding right away

Got it on Giroud at the moment, heard he is best odds on to score this week, but usually like to have it on the most expensive player in the team. But also had it on Lukaku all week. Should be a good week eh 😛
