News Wrap – GW11

Reading Time: 3 minutes

ImageHi there and welcome to another installment of the News Wrap. There was UEFA, Capital One Cup and Europa action midweek so there are a few injury and selection news to discuss, let’s get into it!

  • David Silva unfortunately picked up an injury during the week in City’s romp of CSKA. Unfortunately it is now a lot more serious than first thought. The initial assessment was just a knock to the calf, but the Manchester City staff have determined a slight calf strain and the Spaniard will now miss 4 weeks. Of course this will be the week that I brought him in! Hazard, Oscar, Gerrard or Nasri all look like good replacements.
  • Lukaku was “fully fit to train” to train all week and has fully recovered from the clash with Hugo Lloris. Will be right for the weekend.
  • Michu suffered an ankle injury against Cardiff on the weekend that initially was diagnosed as a 2 game injury, however Laudrup confirmed midweek that he will now miss at least a month. With him struggling to get the points on the board now is definitely the time to dump him.
  • Wilshere did not travel to Dortmund midweek and faced a fitness test on Thursday. He trained with the group on Friday and will be available. As will Flamini.
  • Wenger has confirmed that Theo Walcott will finally return, hinting that after the International Break seems the exact return for the winger. Definitely one to watch list, especially if he gets back to last year’s form!
  • Fernando Torres has picked up an injury during the week and is expected to return after the International Break.
  • Winston Reid picked up an ankle injury during training and is now out of this weekend’s game against Norwich. Will return after the International Break.
  • Eden Hazard was left out of the squad against Schalke midweek after initially Mourinho confirmed he picked up an injury and missed the group’s main training session. However this was not the case, Mourinho later commented on the issue saying “I don’t want to lie, he (Hazard) is not injured. He is a kid and kids make mistakes and fathers”. Mourinho did confirm that he will be in the squad for Saturday’s clash against West Brom but whether he starts or not is another question.
  • Fulham striker, Rodallega, has been ruled out for up to 6 weeks. Brede Hangeland will face a late fitness test before the trip to Anfield. The defender has some nerve damage in his leg.
  • Van Wolfswinkel has once again been ruled out for the weekend’s clash. Likely to return after the International Break.
  • Sone Aluko has been ruled out for 10 weeks with an Achilles Tear, not good news for Hull.
  • Nicolas Anelka is a major doubt for his return to Stamford Bridge this weekend. The 34-year-old suffered a slight groin strain midweek and will face a late fitness test before the game. Sinclair has once again been ruled out, Clarke saying “Sinclair’s done a bit of training this week but I think the game’s going to come a little bit too early for him”.
  • Brady is once again a doubt for this weekend’s clash. He is still battling with that ongoing Hernia issue. Another 10 minute stint off the bench looks likely. Very frustrating. Bruce said “He’s still a little bit sore so I can’t see him making this weekend”
  • Nastasic will face a late fitness test ahead of this weekend’s trip to Sunderland. Should be right.
  • Wilkinson is out again for Stoke this weekend with a knee complaint. Looks set to return after the International Break. Walters, Huth and Pieters have all missed the main training session yesterday and will be assessed before the game on Sunday.

Team News:

  • Swansea fullback, Ben Davies, passed a fitness test midweek and started for Swansea in their Europa League clash. A great attacking option into Swansea’s defense!
  • Snodgrass and Redmond are both facing a late fitness test for their home game against West Ham.
  • After missing several weeks, Jose Enrique will face a late fitness test before the game against Fulham at Anfield. Both Gerrard and Johnson trained midweek and will be available. Rogers said “He has trained and his knee is much better so we’ll be hoping he will be available for the weekend”
  • Coloccini has returned to training this week and is expected to be available. Stephen Taylor looks likely to return after the International Break.
  • Lloris will be available this weekend after suffering a concussion last Sunday. He was rested midweek in Spurs’ Europa league clash so will be fit and available.
  • Danny Welbeck will miss out again this weekend. Carrick, Rafael, Evans and Cleverly will all face late fitness tests on Saturday arvo to determine if they’re right for the Arsenal game on Sunday.

Well that’s the latest wrap of the Injury and Team news. Some big injuries to David Silva and Michu have really got this weekend off on a sour note for me. Let’s hope this high scoring continues, good luck!

with walcott back is ramsey going to be getting the same amount of game time? or is it going to be a similar case to barkley’s role for everton since pienaar’s back?

I wouldn’t have thought so. Two different players. Walcott a winger and Ramsey is more of a holding midfielder with a fantastic attacking work rate. Shouldn’t really matter.

    • supajeff

I’d worry if I had Ramsey, as a young player he will get rested more ofter with Walcott back, midfield structure may change to accommodate the returning Walcott. Walcott and Ozil only played 1 game together and Santi was not playing. Arsenal have strong mids now so Ramseys output will decrease.

have i got my starting line up right?

    Zabaleta Terry Coleman
    Lallana Mirallas Yaya Toure Ramsey
    Lambert Rooney v Suarez c

    Boruc Januzaj Dawson Reid

Thanks for the write up BURKIE (got it right this time haha), nothing related to my team… Thankfully!
Also, which two should I start out of Rangel (STK-H), Morrison (NOR-A) & Dawson (NEW-H)??

      • stevenfsexton

ok thx, going with my premium i reckon. boruc has the wood on mignolet so far this season however….

        • nburk53 Post Author

Yeah that’s who I would be leaning to, albeit considering Liverpool’s dismal defensive record. Should keep out a struggling Fulham though…. You would hope!!

Nooo… I just sold Hazard (who I’ve kept all season) so that I can afford Aguero up front.. I see Aguero not scoring now as he is my captain. I knew I should have went Lallana as captain 🙁

  5. Go You Gunners

Oscar, 3 blanks since I traded him in over Hazard, Coutinho couldn’t even get anything in a 4-0 romp, same for Sturridge, and since when does Benteke not score 3 weeks running?

  6. N1qQ45 4R3 K1nG5

First time im here and I am not complaining about the werkend sonce GW2! Suarez captain, Morrison, LALLANA (the patience my son), Coleman. Only dissapointment would probably be the Saints, Clyne and Boruc no clean sheet vs Hull (wtf!) while Mignolet on the bench… ohh well I will take 67 points… not complaining when the average is 29!
Rooney, Aguero, Rangel, Ramsey & Ozil left to hopefully get me to 90… too much?

  7. stevenfsexton

75 points. Rooney, Yaya Toure, Ramsey and Zabaleta to come.
Studs: Suarez c, Lambert, Lallana, Coleman
Duds: Mirallas (missed out on two points after being subbed aboudt 3 mins b4 a cs), John Terry ( I may have jinxed him since trading him in…..

rising up the ranking, rising up the groups, pretty happy 🙂

3rd week running Ive done myself over with 10+ easy points due to silly decisions, giroud over suarez c first time, then two weeks running triple souths defence thinking its going to be cleanies. Im on 49 with 4 to go, Im sure the average will stiffen up once Aguero captain comes into play. Morrision and Mig on bench :/

Ahh I also found out how to stream games on my mobile, costed $3 and the sound is 10seconds delayed, but well worth it for the video. Works better with wifi. steps 1 download skyfire (i use an iphone) then open the app and put in the link then open the links!

    • N1qQ45 4R3 K1nG5

No need on the mobile unless you are on the go. I use a site called:
Works perfectly and ive never missed a game

  10. Go You Gunners

hey fellas, seriously need some help with the team for this week: been sliding down the rankings

G: Boruc (Migs) – No problems here.
D: Clyne Coleman Williams Walker Rat – No problems here either, can rotate all five. As with the goalkeepers its just a matter of who I play
M: Ozil Coutinho Oscar Morrison Amalfitano – Thinking Oscar might need to go, maybe Amalfitano too but tm Morrison is doing fine on field
F: Benteke Girous Sturridge – Benteke will come good I think, Giroud as lone strker will have plenty of chances but i think Sturridge may need to go.
    1.8 in the kitty.

So all in all i think Oscar > Lallana/Mirallas type (What are your thoughts on this choice?) and then Sturridge > Suarez could be the best options. Open to other ideas

    Thanks, help much appreciated
