News Wrap – GW33

Hello and welcome to another addition of the News Wrap. We only have to wait one week for yet another DGW, something that should be factored in when considering your trades.  It’s getting to the pointy end of the season now so attaining the 3 points for both EPL and FPL managers is crucial. Injury news and selection news is always present, you know the drill, lets analyse it!

Injuries:

  • The biggest news emerging from the week of football is the injury to Belgium big man, Christian Benteke. The Villa striker unfortunately ruptured his achilles tendon in training yesterday, which will mean he not only misses the remainder of the season, but will also miss the World Cup. Shocking news for both Villa and Belgium.
  • Ross Barkley copped a knock to his calf against Fulham last weekend, which has reportedly been troubling him during the week. Martinez said he is hopeful he will recover in time for this weekends crucial clash against Arsenal, saying he is ‘touch and go’ at the moment.
  • Sergio Aguero gave an interesting response to about his return time, saying, “I’m trying to do my best to play again, I cannot hurry. If something happens, I will loose the rest of the EPL season and the World Cup.” Seems to be taking a far more cautious approach to his return this time around, I therefore wouldn’t be trading him in until he’s played at least 1 full game – injury free as well! He has been ruled out for this weekends game against Southampton but is targeting a return against Liverpool next weekend.
  • Sissoko suffered a thigh injury against Southampton last weekend which has now been reported will see him miss around 3 weeks.
  • Adebayor returned to training this week after missing last week’s demolition at the hands of Liverpool. Tim Sherwood is hopeful he will be available to face Sunderland on Monday.
  • Maynor Figueroa is expected to return to action this weekend against Swansea after being troubled with an ankle injury.
  • Vertonghen and Soldado have been ruled out of this Monday’s game against Sunderland, Sherwood is hopeful of a return next weekend.

Team News

  • Arsene Wenger has confirmed that both Monreal and Ramsey have been included in the matchday squad against Everton this weekend. Ramsey was such a revelation for Arsenal this season and provided a very good option in FPL terms, however since suffering this ongoing injury he has been out since December and decreased significantly in price. Once he returns to full fitness he could be a very good option. Wenger also said that Gibbs and Gnabry will face a late fitness test due to ankle and knee complaints respectively.
  • Garry Monk has confirmed that Swansea have no injury concerns ahead of their game against Hull this weekend.
  • Ashley Cole returns to the Chelsea squad after missing the past few weeks through injury. Azpilicueta has been doing a fantastic job at left back this year and I don’t see that changing any time soon. Think Ashley’s days are becoming limited at Chelsea… Eto’o and Mikel will once again miss out.

Well that’s a wrap off all the injury and selection news ahead of a big gameweek 33. Next week is of course another DGW for Manchester City & Sunderland so trying to double up on a few decent options will definitely be worthwhile. Also be aware that Manchester United have a bye, meaning valuable assets in Rooney and Mata obviously wont play. Good luck for this weekend and I’ll be back again next week! Cheers.

    MASSIVE NEWS JUST IN:
Wayne Rooney has been ruled out of the game this weekend and is a doubt for the midweek trip to Bayern. Big news! I would trade because United doesn’t play next weekend either – that’s a lot of money on the bench… For two weeks!

    • rostie

See what happens when you go to the footy…..pies get done and you nusz the chance to trade Rooney 😁

    • Shaun Curnow

This is doing my head in.. There are no clear quality options to trade him to! Dzeko/Aguero I cant get unless i get rid of one of Zabaleta/Yaya/Silva but all 3 going be crucial with all doubles coming up!! Seriously tempted to take punt on Giroud with Arsenals great run fixtures… Need try get good POD to try finish top 20 overall…

      • kingcolesy

Haha yeah I’m worried about your rise to ranks! Hoping all the best for ya but hope I can pull thru. Great work on holding mata.

        • Shaun Curnow

Thanks mate, upto 33rd with live rankings so see how we go tonight! Goodluck yourself mate, hopefully you can hold position up there!
Only held Mata cos only recently got him in for Utds double few weeks back!

          • kingcolesy

He did have the best fixtures of the 9m plus dgwers. So much hindsight recently has killed me. I’ve wrote most my thoughts on this site too haha. If only I went thru with em. Good luck on rest of season, your kinda up against it with no Suarez and hazard but that could be a blessing. I do think giroud is best pod for you to finish with as bad as it sounds, his fixtures are great til end of season.

          • Shaun Curnow

Haha yeah hindsight can be horrible thing when looking back… I try not to overthink my decisions and at end of day 95% of time go with my gut. This year it’s paid off most of time…

Yep sure am up against it without those 2 but I still think trading Hazard was right move. I looked at figures and since I traded him for Silva I’m already 13 points better off… Not to mention extra points I used to upgrade elsewhere.. Was long term trade with City’s 3 doubles…

But the Saurez trade going hurt with Rooney missing with injury now. Only good thing is quite lot teams rely on Saurez to score well, so when he fails it really boosts me and when he does fire I’ve managed to not lose much ground.

Good luck mate & lets hope Everton can finally keep clean sheet tonight cos with Howard & Coleman I could sure do with those points!! Oh and hope everyone got on board the Lukuka train weeks ago when I said he was must have purchase with his run fixtures!!

        • Shaun Curnow

Already have Lukaku. Running Rooney/Sturridge/Lukaku at moment. Only other real option I can see is Bony. It’s hard!

Ohh, Don’t have Suarez? Oh boy…. And you’re still killing it! Well then, looks like a week of research for you 😀

          • Shaun Curnow

Haha nope I traded him few weeks ago when he wasn’t in best form and when Liverpool had a blank! Traded him to Rooney which has worked out not so bad in big scheme things til now!! But yeah still doing alright without him. It’s good POD for me now against rest of top teams. Just need him to not fire and I’ll be right! Lol

    • kingcolesy

I know man, I could tell you every trade Ive done for past 7 weeks and it hasnt been good haha I couldnt help holding the Gerrard to Silva trade like planned! My place is fast becoming preyed on hah.
