The Captains – GW24

Reading Time: 2 minutes

It’s time for another round of captaincy options! We finally hit a few winners last week, I’ll be trying to keep up the momentum. The big question is, can anyone topple Kun? Let’s take a look at the options…

The Contenders:

Sterling – Captaincy is a stretch too far this week, however have him firmly on your radars. While Sturridge will grab all the headlines on his return, Sterling has suddenly become an fpl bargain at just 8.4. He will get far less attention and his link up play with Sturridge is sublime. Watch out for those two.

As I said last week, United’s attacking options are a lottery (not to mention out of form). Continue to avoid for now.

The Spurs v Arsenal derby could be anything. Guys like Walcott, Cazorla, Kane all have the potential to go big, but these games are too hard to predict. I’d be giving it a wide birth, although I do see goals in this one.

Finally the cheap strikers on some radars this week will be Ings and Austin. Although Pulis’ West brom had a shocker last week, expect them to give Burnley very little in terms of attacking returns. Southampton will also be looking to bounce back so I’d give Ings a wide birth also.

Top 3:

1. Aguero – Let’s be realistic, there’s only one man we should really be considering this week. If you’re going against Aguero at home to Hull, you must be mad. There is the off chance that he may get injured, but if he plays 90 minutes surely he will get on the scoresheet. He will certainly be hungry for goals. The risk v reward of not captaining him does not match up. Hopefully we can finally get a big captaincy return!

2. Silva – If for some reason you don’t own Aguero, Silva is one for strong consideration. Ever since he’s come back from injury, he has finally started to reward himself with goals as well as assists. He remains a bargain in midfield and if City continue to play with one striker, he will continue to dominate. It will be interesting to see how he fares if Bony comes into the line-up alongside Aguero. Solid option this week.

3. Hazard – After a few failed attempts, Hazard finally succeeded as the number 1 option. The beauty about Hazard is his penchant for picking up bonus points. He only managed a single assist in Chelsea’s 1-1 draw against City, yet picked up 3 bonus for a very respectable 8 points. He’s a great chance to do at least that again against a lackluster Villa outfit, so have him high on your list of armband options.

The Punt:

Sturridge – If you can manage to pick up Sturridge, don’t hold back. That goal he scored last week is exactly what made Liverpool made so dangerous last season with the addition of Suarez. Guys like Aguero and Sturridge have the ability to score goals out of nothing more than a half chance, it’s why they get on the scoresheet so consistently. If he stays fit he has the potential to match Aguero, and if he starts against Everton he could do all sorts of damage to their woeful defence. There’s still risks involved due to a lack of match fitness, hence he is the punt!

There you have your options for this week. Hopefully Aguero can get the business done! It looks like it will be a great weekend of football, let’s make it a high scoring one as well! Good luck.

Ivanovic not a bad shout, but you need attacking returns to make it worth your while and that’s a lottery if anything unless your name is Baines.

  1. Holly

Thought more Chelsea players might be mentioned as they’re playing against a terrible Villa. Not put him as captain but thought it might be interesting to stick Remy up front with Giroud and Aguero in mine 🙂
Great read by the way !

  2. Bio Eden Hazard

Aguero all the way, I love not having the headache of choosing a captain. Getting my wildcard team together was hard enough…but I’m excited to see my new boys play!!

  3. Dan

Week going well for a change, 64 with Lescott and Di Maria to come. Transfers in of Ozil and Ivanovic worked out well. Also can’t believe Defoe’s low ownership so far at his price.

I guess Kane explains it. Also doesn’t seem to be a big scorer, so will need to be ultra consistent to warrant a spot due to the incredible competition in that price bracket this season. Downing averaging 5.4 ppg!!! Ridiculous.

  4. Rakshit

58 and green arrows. Ill take that. Midfield disappointed except Eden Hazard. Kane bandwagon keeps rolling on!! Solid candidate for Perma captain??
