Projected XI's – Swansea

Reading Time: 3 minutes

The premiership should really be called the Barclays Premier League, because it’s no longer solely based in England! Today we examine the only Welsh club in the league, and they have become a force to be reckoned with…

Fabianski has the keeper spot locked down. You could almost consider him as a set and forget option considering Swansea’s consistent defensive record last season (7 home clean sheets 6 away). Great option.

Williams lead the league for CBI’s last season, so it’s no surprise he has been a much talked about option this season. He will be partnered by Fernandez in central defence, with Naughton (RB) and Taylor (LB) likely to play either side of them.

I’m shocked by Naughton’s 5.0 price tag considering he started just 10 games at Swansea before getting injured, recording 1 assist in that time. His 2.3 ppg last season wasn’t exactly ground breaking returns. It’s a shame, there goes our budget route into Swansea’s defence! However he should start ahead of Rangel and be their first choice right back when fit.

I can see Ki and Shelvey forming a solid midfield partnership, supporting each other in the double pivot. They both have a great knack of getting themselves on the scoresheet, however they won’t be reliable scorers. Cork is another central midfield option but is likely to act as back-up. Sigurdsson will play off the striker, a role that he thrives upon. His 7 goals and 10 assists returned him 4.8 ppg, making him a budget wonder. He is still priced kindly at 7.5 if you want an alternative to the untested Payet.

On the wing new signing Ayew should play on the left, he is a secure starter and one to consider at 7.0. Meanwhile Routledge and Montero will battle it out for the other wide position. I think Montero has tremendous ability and if he can hit form, he should get the nod. I wouldn’t select him though, his job security is shaky…

Swansea favour playing one big striker up front, so expect to see Gomis battle it out with new signing Eder to lead the attack. Gomis is sure to get the first chance, he will lineup GW1 and is a viable option as a POD. If Eder can make his way into the starting XI he is priced kindly at 5.5.

50/50: There are plenty of possible options at Swansea, many of which I’m sitting on the fence. If Ayew had come in at 6.5 he would have been a lock, but that increase to 7.0 makes me want to sit back and see how he fares early. He will score well this season.

Sigurdsson is an underrated option. He has THE BEST points per game ratio of any player under 8.5. That includes popular options like Ozil, Mata, Cazorla, Oscar, Toure, Mane, Benteke, Ramsey, Pelle and Coutinho… Yet he is cheaper than all of them. It’s not like he played a quarter of the season either, his 32 appearances shows he has durability as well! Explain to me why he’s selected by under 10% of managers…

Lock: Based on his efforts last season, Fabianski should be higher up our watchlists. I don’t think I’ve seen him once! To be fair he’s no lock though.

Avoid: Rangel lost his right back position to Naughton after he signed in January. I was tempted as well when I saw his price, but you have to avoid him!

Breakout: Montero has stacks of ability, if he could only turn that into end product! A stat that surprised me is he managed 8 assists in just 1500 minutes last season! He came off the bench far too often to become relevant, but if he can become a first team regular he has to be considered at 6.0.

Spurs are up next, not long to go now!!!

Yep no idea why Siggy isn’t more popular. 100% JS, CAM every week, proven high scorer, very affordable.

Keep going brother, great articles and looking forward to you boys revealing your sides.

Have Fab in goals partnered with Schmiecal & my big POD for season is Gomis

    Once again, great article!

Torn between Ramsey and Siggy for a mid-priced mid… Either way this is the mid I’ll be trading out for Sanchez.

    Any advice?
