Hello and welcome to this season’s second edition of News Wrap. This week looks like the Week of Wildcards, so be sure to finalize your team without any injured players! Here’s the update of every teams news heading into Gameweek 3 in case if you’ve missed any.
Everyone who played against Crystal palace should be available on Monday night for the clash against Liverpool. Jack Wilshere continues to remain sidelined for a month or two after suffering a calf injury. Thomas Rosicky picked up a knee injury while on International duty and should be back around GW5. Danny Welbeck is a few days away from full training and we can expect him to feature soon.
Jack Grealish might feature from the bench on the trip to Crystal Palace. Okore and Gil are out of the clash this week. Crespo, the new signing remains sidelined with a knee injury and will likely be available soon. Gardner is out for a few more weeks with the ankle injury he sustained during pre-season.
Atsu has recovered from a knock and may be available on the trip to the Upton Park, although you’d suspect he will be on the bench. Arter has missed most of the pre-season with a thigh injury and lacks match fitness. MacDonald is also in the mix to return this week.
Moses confirmed he is nursing a ‘small injury’ and hopes to be back very soon. Not that he’s relevant… Oscar remains out of the clash with the baggies with a muscular injury. New signings Pedro and Baba Rahman are available for the trip to West Brom.
Speroni continues to miss with a finger injury and will spend at least 2 more weeks on the sidelines. Frazier Campbell looks set to miss all the fixtures in August with a hamstring injury. Chamakh is out for a couple of weeks with his hamstring injury. Appiah remains a long term absentee with ACL injury.
Leighton Baines is out for at least 3 months – a real tough blow for those of us that put him in our fantasy teams! Hibbert picked up a knee injury pre-season and is likely to be out for one more month. Gibson and Pienaar remain on the sidelines for atleast one more week. Mirallas is back in full training and is expected to feature against the in-form Manchester City. McGeady has a 50/50 chance to be fit this Gameweek.
Matthew James is out with ACL injury. Not likely to feature till the end of January. Mark Schwarzer is suffering with illness. Fuchs suffered a knock, so he faces a late fitness test. Expect him to feature once fully fit.
Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson came off just after half time against Bournemouth. He is battling a niggling foot injury and had this to say… “If I do play (I have to ask) what is the risk and how long could I be out”. The good news is it can’t be too serious, but he is a 50/50 at best for this week. Liverpool are trying everything they can to ensure that their star striker Daniel Sturridge is fully fit before his return to action. He is expected to return in the first half of September. Allen picked up a hamstring injury pre-season and is likely to be out till the end of this month. Flanagan remains a long term absentee.
Pablo Zabaleta is out for 4 weeks with a knee injury sustained during training. So, Bacary Sagna is locked at right back for City in the short term at least. He provides a nice value at 5.0. Fabian Delph’s hamstring injury isn’t too serious, but he is likely to miss a couple more weeks. Gael Clichy is fit and available for selection, but it’s hard to see Kolarov getting dropped. Fernando faces a late fitness test on his muscular injury.
Marcus Rojo should be close to full fitness. Romero looks likely to retain his place in the goal. Fellaini serves the last match of his suspension and is available from GW4.
Sissoko is doubtful for the trip to Old Trafford, McLaren will keep a watchful eye on the Frenchman. Cabella is expected to be available for selection. Riviere is not available for selection due to his knee injury and is likely to be assessed over the coming days. Dummett is recovering from his hamstring injury and is likely to be back in a week’s time. De Jong suffered a knock and may feature from the bench against Manchester United.
There are no fresh injuries for Norwich’s squad. Olsson is back in training following a shoulder injury, he could be relevant once he returns (4.0 defender). Mulumbu is expected to be missing for several weeks with a fractured foot.
Jordi Clasie is out for a further 2 weeks. Ryan Bertrand is still a couple of weeks away following surgery in July, so Targett remains a short-term option. Will feature by mid-September I expect. The news out of St Mary’s is that the big keeper, Fraser Forster could miss the entire season due to the extent of his knee injury. Initial reports said 6-9 months, but expect it to be longer. Gardos looks set to spend most of the season on the side-lines. Ramirez has a knock and is not expected to feature this week.
Odemwingie is likely to be rested as a precaution after picking up a hamstring injury. Bojan is in the mix having gained furhter match fitness over the past couple of weeks. Walters and Wilson face late fitness tests, whilst Shawcross remains out.
Kaboul picked up a knock last week and is expected to be out this week. John O’Shea is his likely replacement. Wes Brown is likely to be featured at some point against Swansea. Adam Johnson is expected to be out for up to 2 months after picking up a shoulder injury in training.
Amat is still struggling with an injury he picked up in April. Ki Sung Yeung is still being assessed over his hamstring injury and may face a late fitness test, but is unlikely at this stage.
Townsend is out for a week with an ankle injury. Everyone else is available for the selection this gameweek.
Doyley and Ekstrand are the long term absentees, but other than that Watford have no fresh concerns…
West Bromvich Albion:
Ben Foster is expected to miss till October with an ACL injury. New signing Rondon is expected to feature in the starting XI against Chelsea.
West Ham United:
Zarate expects to miss the next two games after picking up the knock in training. Andy Carroll is not likely to figure for the Hammers until well into October with a MCL injury. Enner Valencia is also out until October with a knee injury. O’Brien’s future still appears uncertain, but he should shake off a knock to be able to feature this weekend. Oxford faces a late fitness test
Next week I’ll narrow it down to the fresh injury concerns, I hope this has helped your preparations…
