News Wrap – GW5

Reading Time: 5 minutes

Hello and welcome to the news wrap for this gameweek, the first one after the International break and the deadline day. Sorry for missing out on the last one as I was travelling. Few players returned injured from their International duty and there have been a few deadline day signings. I will try to cover most of the fantasy relevant ones in this edition.

Fpl addicts

No signings made on the deadline day. No outfield player signed in the summer transfer window. Arsenal is the only team to do so in the top 5 leagues. Certainly deserves a mention there, don’t they? That’s not the end of bad news for Arsenal fans. Danny Welbeck is out certainly until Christmas. So, certainly out of strikers. Rosicky is facing a similar time out too, both out requiring surgeries on their knees. Per Mertesacker has returned to full training and has a 75% chance of featuring this weekend. Laurent Koscielny is declared fit to face stoke. Wilshere is unavailable for a month and a half at least.

Aston Villa:

Jack Grealish and Adama Traore face late fitness tests for the clash with Leicester city. So, expect them to feature from the bench at the best. Idrissa Gana picked up a hamstring injury on International duty and likely to miss out this weekend. Agbonlahor recovered from his bout of sickness and is available for this gameweek. Joleon Lescott signed for Villa on the deadline day and is training with the squad. So, expect him to come into the first team squad straight away.

Glenn Murray signed for Bournemouth from Crystal Palace. I seriously doubt Murray replacing the hatrick boy Wilson right away. So, FPL managers having Wilson can surely hold on. The new signings Gradel and Mings are almost out for the season. Arter is still six weeks out although he is back in training.

Courtois is out for around 3 months after picking up a serious knee injury in the training session which requires a surgery. So, Begovic will be the No. 1 Chelsea Goalie for a while. Oscar is not available this weekend with a muscular injury. The new signings Baba Rehman and Djilobodji are available for the weekend but I doubt they will play 90 minutes.

Crystal palace:

Yohan Cabaye limped off in the International friendly with a pelvic injury but that was precautionary and is set to be OK for this game. But, Joel Ward has picked up an injury in training and will be out for 3 to 4 weeks. Mile Jedinak is nearly fully fit, so don’t expect a start but to feature from the bench in the best case. Speroni is back in contention after he made his comeback in development game against Huddersfield Town on Monday.

Bryan Oviedo has picked up a knee concern and is likely to miss out. Galloway has a 50% chance of facing Chelsea this weekend although Everton manager Martinez is optimistic about his return in time. Tom Cleverley is out for 6-8 weeks. Darron Gibson is back in full training. Ramiro Funes Mori and Aaron Lennon, the new signings are waiting for their debuts this week, both are available. For Lennon, this will be a second blues debut.

Leicester City:

Matthew James is out with ACL injury. Not likely to feature till the end of January. Riyad Mahrez is no longer an injury doubt after featuring for Algeria this week. So, he can be considered a wild and risky choice for the captain this gameweek. Swiss captain Inler has signed for Leicester and is available for the clash with Aston Villa. Nathan Dyer signed for Leicester from Swansea on deadline day and is available.

They are up for a big clash with Manchester United. Daniel Sturridge has returned to training but not set for a start. Henderson and Lallana have a 50% chance of being fit for the big clash and will be monitored over next 24 hours. I expect them to feature from the bench. Coutinho is unavailable this weekend after picking up a red card last match against West Ham United.

Manchester City:

Bacary Sagna is 100% fit and will certainly feature against Crystal Palace this weekend. So, Otamendi might have to wait for his full debut. Fabian Delph is out for 6 weeks after picking up a hamstring injury while on International duty. David Silva is out this week after taking a knock on his ankle. He is expected to return for the Champions league fixture against Juventus, mid week. So, I expect the new record signing Kevin DeBruyne to feature this week. Zabaleta, Fernando and Clichy are not available. Manuel Pellegrini has been voted as Manager of the Month after gaining a very impressive 12 points out of 12 by his side.

Manchester United:

David DeGea signed a new four year contract with Manchester United after the deadline day row with Real Madrid. He also kept a clean sheet for Spain mid week. So, I expect him to start against Liverpool and re-claim the No.1 spot from the ‘not so good’ Romero. The most expensive teenage signing Anthony Martial is available and I expect him to feature from the bench at best. But, its Louis VanGaal, expect the unexpected. Carrick is declared fit. Phil Jones is still out. Latest update is that Wayne Rooney is ruled out of the Liverpool clash with a hamstring injury.

Newcastle United:

Aleksander Mitrovis is unavailable after picking up a red card in the previous outing. Sylvian Marveaux is back in full training and will be available in a fortnight and McClaren suggests having plans for playing him soon. Keep an eye for this attacking midfielder. No deadline signings made by Newcastle United.

Norwich city:

Dieumerci Mbokani and Matt Jarvis are both in contention to make their Norwich city debuts against Bournemouth on Saturday. Kyle Lafferty and Martin Olsson are fit after playing twice for their national teams during the break. Steven Whittaker is out as he serves a one-match suspension for his dismissal against Southampton. Lewis Grabban, Gary Hooper and Mulumbu are unavailable.

Jordy Clasie, Ryan Bertrand and Fraser Forster, all good fantasy prospects are out atleast for 2 weeks if not less. Victor Wanyama after the potential move to Tottenham fell apart has agreed to move on and so is available for the trip to west brom. So, expect him to feature this week.

Stoke city:

Diouf hasn’t been able to train this week and so he is unlikely to feature from the start this week against Arsenal. Arunatovic(Ankle) and Glen Johnson(Hamstring) are likely to miss out too. Odemwingie is still short of match fitness. Jonathan Walters is welcomed back by the club and he is expected to feature from the start. A silent deadline day for stoke city too.

Steven Fletcher is ruled out of Sunday’s match with a knock. So, the new arrival Borini might get some minutes under his belt this week. Jordi Gomez and Adam Johnson are expected to resume full training next week.

Jefferson Montero has recovered from a thigh injury and is available for Swansea’s trip to Watford. So, a fully fit squad to choose from and continue their fine run of form. Andre Ayew picked up the Player of the Month award.

Emmanuel Adebayor will not play for Tottenham again. New boy Son Heung-min is expected to feature in the game at some time. Eriksen misses out. Dembele is unavailable after picking up an injury against Everton. New signing Clinton Nije is still closing in on full fitness; so, don’t expect him to feature this week.

Deadline day signings Adlene Guediora and Obbi Oulare are available. Fellow deadline day signing Victor Ibarbo is awaiting a work permit. Miguel Britos is suspended and Joel Ekstrand(Knee) is out.

West Bromvich Albion:

Saido Berahino is certainly in contention for the clash against Southampton, after the disappointing transfer saga. Johnny Evans and Jesse lindegaard made a move to West Brom following Darren Fletcher from Manchester United.

West Ham United:

West ham United is easily the busiest club on the deadline day. They have signed Victor Moses, Jelavic, Song and Antonio. Andy Carroll back in full training and is in contention for this week’s fixture against Newcastle. Alex song will return in October from his ankle injury. We will have to wait and see who starts in the final eleven with so many options available for Slaven Bilic to choose from. Otherwise, except Song, all the new signings are available for selection. Enner Valencia, Zarate and O’Brien remain the long term absentees.

Well that wraps up this edition of News Wrap. Good luck this weekend and feel free to post any last minute selection queries. I will update any last minute news updates in the comments section below.

In case some one missed, the latest update is that Wayne Rooney is ruled of the big clash with Liverpool with a hamstring injury. I expect Maroune Fellaini to start up front.

I believe it is Andres Lindegaard, the goalkeeper, who made the switch to West Brom. You had him confused with Jesse Lingard

    • Abraham2

Why not make the switch to De Bruyne and see how it goes? It’s almost like-for-like, price-wise, and he will be playing in Silva’s position this week

Yes… I did it even though its costing me 4 points and I’m a Palace fan, but I’m hoping Palace will get something out of this game.

Never make your trades on Monday during an international… Lesson still not learnt. Have fun on the brnch Silva!

    Cheers for the summary Sai!

Watched the United game. Like the look of Martial and made Man U look much better up front.

Wouldn’t surprise me if he gets more minutes. Is he worth bringing in or too much of an unknown EPL quantity?

    • Bio Eden Hazard

Very unknown in my opinion. He only had about 30 games in ligue 1 before joining Man United…nevertheless he should get those minutes!
