Week in, week out, Ozil, Lukaku, Vardy and Ighalo keep bringing the goods. Picking a captain has almost become boring… thank god emerging PODs like Ramsey are there to keep things interesting!
Not many contenders this week so let me jump straight to the top 3.
The Top 3
1. Romelu Lukaku
What more can we say about this guy? By now you all know how much of a scoring beast he’s been lately (7 goals and 2 assists in the last 6). He even grabbed 3 bonus points last week, which doesn’t happen that often! A game at home against Leicester seems promising too…although the Foxes have kept a clean sheet in their last 2 games away (to Newcastle and Swansea, not the most scoring teams). He’s quite frankly the most obvious pick, therefore he is leading captain polls. Avoid if you’re looking for a differential.
The pros: great run of form, lone striker, good fixture at home
The cons: Leicester have kept a clean sheet in their last 2 away games
2. Odion Igahlo
He’s finally making the top 3! The Watford striker has been in exceptional form (on par with Lukaku and Vardy basically), recording 3 goals and 2 assists in the last 4 games. His underlying stats are great too. Finally, Liverpool are still a bit shaky in my opinion. Two goals conceded against each Newcastle and West Brom in the last 2 games is not the sign of a great defense…
The pros: great run of form, lone striker, good fixture at home (similar to Lukaku)
The cons: I would still rate Lukaku above him (good differential though if you want to avoid the Belgian)
3. Riyad Mahrez
Another player that needs no introduction: Mahrez has been key to the great run of the Foxes. He proved it again in the last 2 games with 4 goals and 1 assist. He may be less consistent than a striker but boy can he make damages! Everton’s defense hasn’t been very convincing either. As a note on consistency though: Mahrez did reach that “striker level” at the beginning of the year (first 6 game weeks) so there you go…(PS: Vardy is also, as usual, a good pick)
The pros: great form in the last 2 games, key to his team and very explosive
The cons: doesn’t have the consistency of a striker (Lukaku & co)…or does he?
I want to put my boy Aaron Ramsey here. After 2 goals and 1 assist since he has returned to the central midfielder position he loves so much, I feel like he deserves it. Off course Ozil is safer as he’s very consistent but he may have to share the points now. City has been kind of a mess defensively too and I can see the gunners getting the win at the Emirates!
The pros: explosive midfielder, good fixture at home
The cons: returned recently so it’s hard to assess his consistency
Thanks guys. Hope this has helped!
