Without further adulation here are ‘Blunty’s uMAXit Tips’ for GW17:

Leicester v Stoke

Head to Head:

Leicester: 32

Draw: 32

Stoke: 33

After no clashes between the two from 2008 to 2014, honours have been split in their five clashes from 2014 onwards. (2-1-2)
Leicester head into this game with the worst last six game record in the league. This record did improve with last week’s upset win over Manchester City but then they were brought down to earth in a midweek loss to Bournemouth. Stoke have been in moderate form, with two wins, two draws and two losses in the last six. Stoke will be missing Marco Arnautovic following his dismissal in the mid-week goalless draw with Southampton.

Prediction: Draw (0-0). Even over history & in recent times, reckon that will likely continue.

Sunderland v Watford

Head to Head:

Sunderland: 17

Draw: 14

Watford: 10

Last season’s two clashes were the only time these teams have played since 2005, with the results being a Watford victory & a draw.
After a disastrous season start, Sunderland improved under David Moyes. Over the last six matches, they have the 9th best record with 9pts (3W, 3L). Watford started the season well, but have only won two from their last six starts, both at home.

Prediction: Sunderland (1-0). Black Cats improving, & having not called honours even in any of their last six, suggests a result will be on the cards. Given Watford’s form away from Vicarage Road, expect this to fall Sunderland’s way.

Middlesborough v Swansea

Head to Head:

Middlesborough: 18

Draw: 9

Swansea: 15

The sides have only played five times since 1995, with all between 2009 & 2012. Swansea have won the last three between the sides but that won’t mean too much given over four years since the last one.
A vital clash given Middlesborough (17th) are just three points above Swansea (18th), who are sitting in the relegation zone. In their last three at home Middlesborough have only won once. Whilst Swansea remain winless in their last three away matches.

Prediction: Swansea (1-2). A draw isn’t a common result between the sides over history. This game will likely be split by who wants the points more in this relegation-battling clash. See the Swans getting the points in a tight one.

Manchester City v Arsenal

Head to Head:

Man City: 49

Draw: 44

Arsenal: 95

In recent times, Manchester City haven’t beaten Arsenal since December 2013. In this time, there has been three wins to the Gunners and three draws.
This is the first high profile clash of the weekend (4th vs 3rd). Both are in decent recent form with 11 (A) & 10 (MC) points from their last six matches. City are 1-1-1 from their last 3 at home, Arsenal 1-1-1 last 3 away.

Prediction: Draw (1-1). I see both teams reluctant to go all out given table position nature of the clash. Honours to be split.

Everton v Liverpool

Head to Head:

Everton: 82

Draw: 80

Liverpool: 115

Second high profile clash preview of the week, Monday nights (UK Time) Merseyside Derby. Everton last defeated Liverpool in their first clash of the 2010-11 season, winning 2-0 at Goodison. Since then, Liverpool have won five and drawn seven. Most of the Reds wins at Anfield & majority of draws at Goodison. Last season, was 1-1 at Everton before Liverpool inflicted a 4-0 defeat at Anfield.
Recent form, the teams are polar opposites. Everton have the 4th worst record in the league over their last six matches, with just one win – their last outing over Arsenal at home. They also have a poor defensive record with 13 goals against & just six goals for in the last six matches. Liverpool have the 4th best record over this time with just one loss. The Reds have 16 goals for & seven against in their last six matches.

Prediction: Liverpool (1-3). With both teams defensive fragilities well documented, expect both teams to score with Liverpool’s fire power up front to get the points. See it being 1 goal difference with a late counter goal to seal the result and make the result more comfortable on paper than in reality.
